The Kneißl Bühne e. V. is an amateur theatre group in Unterweikertshofen, part of the municipality of Erdweg in the district of Dachau, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1998, it is named after the Bavarian robber Mathias Kneißl, who was born in Unterweikertshofen in 1875, and stages one full-length Bavarian comedy a year.[1]
History
In the 1990s a group of women from Unterweikertshofen regularly performed sketches at the Christmas parties of the local horticultural society and at the women's carnival. In May 1998 they staged Theo Musselmann's one-act play Eine verhinderte Festrede at the Gasthaus Fischerwirt, directed by Robert Weigerstorfer, and used the evening to present their plan to found a theatre group. The founding meeting was held at the Fischerwirt on 19 June 1998, with Weigerstorfer as first chairman. In March 1999 the group performed its first three-act play, Seine Majestät, der Kurgast by Peter Jehl, in the newly opened village community hall.[1]
Repertoire
The group stages one full-length play a year, usually a Bavarian comedy, mostly in spring; younger members also perform short pieces at village events.[1] In 2001 and 2002 it played Mathias Kneißl – Stationen eines verpfuschten Lebens by Josef Reiner, in summer 2002 as a guest performance at the Kneißl festival in Geisenhofen.[2]
