The Komödienbrettl Untermenzing (also written Komödien-Brettl Untermenzing) is an amateur theatre group in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, that stages Bavarian folk comedies. Founded in 1987, it has played since 1994 in the theatre hall of the Hans-Sieber-Haus in the Untermenzing district.[1]
History
The group was founded by three amateur actors who had met in the Munich group "Volksbühne 80". It found its first venue in the Gaststätte Weyprechthof in the Harthof district, where its first comedy, Der Saisongock'l, was performed in October 1987 in a hall with about 200 seats. In March 1989 the group moved to the "Mathser am Hasenbergl", whose hall of more than 300 seats proved too large.[1]
In late summer 1989 the founders parted ways; one of them continued the theatre and moved it to Allach, where the Komödien-Brettl played in the large hall of the Gasthaus "Zur Schießstätte" from March 1990 to April 1992, with an almost entirely new cast. After a change of landlord in 1992 the inn was refurbished and the group lost its venue during rehearsals for Bloß koan Schnaps. From November 1992 it played in the aula of the Schulzentrum Untermenzing, but audiences dwindled, at one point to 19 spectators in a hall for about 300, and at the last performance of Wer mit wem? in November 1993 the dissolution of the group was announced.[1]
Through a contact made by a spectator, the group was then offered the stage of the old people's and service centre on Manzostraße, and on 28 October 1994 it premiered Die Bierkur there. The venue has been the group's home since then.[1]
In spring 2015 the group cancelled its production because of personnel changes and a shortage of actors, and resumed in autumn 2015.[2] In 2021 both the spring and autumn productions were cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[3]
Repertoire
The group stages Bavarian comedies (Lustspiele), usually with one production in spring and one in autumn.[4] In spring 2019 it performed Die Ledigensteuer, a comedy in three acts by Walter Kalkus, with six performances in March.[5]
