The Laienbühne Pocking e. V. is an amateur theatre group in Pocking, in the district of Passau, Lower Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1981, it plays Bavarian folk theatre and boulevard comedies, has staged the Christmas play Rottaler Weihnacht, and organises the annual Starkbierfest (strong-beer festival), at which its group the Pockinger Buam perform satirical songs and parodies.[1][2]
History
The group was founded in 1981 by a few theatre enthusiasts from Pocking and, by its own account, has given hundreds of performances to tens of thousands of spectators since. Since 2019 it has donated about 70,000 euros to local aid organisations.[1] The Pockinger Buam have appeared at its Starkbierfest every year since 1981, satirising local politics and events; each festival opens with the mayor tapping the first barrel.[2]
Repertoire
Besides the Starkbierfest, held every year from 1981 with few exceptions, the group has staged productions such as Rottaler Weihnacht (every year from 1987 to 1991, then in odd-numbered years up to 2001, and in 2005 and 2007), Johann Nestroy's Der Talisman (2009), As Glück is a Matz (2024) and Ralph Wallner's rural farce Bodschamperlspuk (2025). Its autumn 2026 production is Anika Abel's comedy Die drei Henna und der nasse Gockl, with four performances from 14 November.[3][4][5]
Organisation
The Laienbühne Pocking has more than 100 members working on and behind the stage.[1]
