The landsberger bühne e. V. is an amateur theatre group in Landsberg am Lech, Upper Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1963 as the amateur stage of the town's adult education centre (VHS), it became an independent association in 1997 and plays in the Landsberg Stadttheater as well as at open-air and other venues in the town.[1][2]

History

The group was founded in 1963 as the Laienspielbühne der VHS Landsberg; its founding members, among them Josef "Peps" Pschorr, had all taken part in the town's Ruethenfest for several years. It then had about 60 members, a seven-member committee and three directors who chose the plays and casts. Starting with comedies and farces, it later turned increasingly to literary classics. After the renovated Stadttheater reopened in October 1995 it became the group's regular venue, and in 1997 the stage took its present name and the status of a registered association.[1] During the closure and renovation of the Stadttheater in the early 1990s the group played in the canteen of the Pflugfabrik and in the open air.[2] It celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2023; since 2024 it has also presented MONOLOGE, readings on International Women's Day in the theatre foyer, whose proceeds of over 1,000 euros went to a local women's refuge initiative.[2][3]

Repertoire

The repertoire ranges from comedies and farces by authors such as Franz Arnold and Ernst Bach to classics by Shakespeare, Molière, Lessing, Büchner and Dürrenmatt, modern drama such as Edward Albee's Wer hat Angst vor Virginia Woolf?, and historical plays about Landsberg; it regularly takes part in the Ruethenfest.[2] Its January 2027 production, a poetic fairy-tale comedy, was in rehearsal in autumn 2026 under the director Ioan Toma.[3]
