The Moskitoldies e. V. is an amateur theatre association based in Kaufbeuren, Swabia, Bavaria, Germany. It grew out of the school theatre group Moskitos at the Jakob-Brucker-Gymnasium and mostly performs in the Stadttheater Kaufbeuren; besides plays it organises cabaret, jazz and poetry slam events and workshops for young actors.[1][2]
History
The teacher Werner Pohl founded the school theatre group Moskitos at the Jakob-Brucker-Gymnasium Kaufbeuren in 1997.[1] In 2002 some of its former members who had finished school formed the loose group of "old Moskitos" – Moskito-Oldies or Moskitoldies. As more school leavers joined each year, a non-profit association was founded in 2008. In 2013 the Moskitoldies were among the founders of the Theaterlandschaften Kaufbeuren, a loose alliance of Kaufbeuren theatre groups.[3]
Since January 2015 the association has owned its own clubhouse, which it renovated to provide rehearsal rooms and workshops; it has used it for workshops on rhetoric, stage make-up and stage fighting. By the 2016/17 New Year it had staged a political cabaret on New Year's Eve for the sixth time, and its members take part in Kaufbeuren's historical Tänzelfest with a medieval camp and comic plays.[3]
Repertoire
Any member can propose and direct a production of their choice in the Stadttheater Kaufbeuren, and the repertoire ranges from classical comedy and absurdist drama to children's plays, social drama such as Lars Norén's Klinik and crime plays.[3] The association's list of productions also includes those of the school group Moskitos, which stages two plays each year with almost forty pupils.[1][4][4]
