The Neuaubinger Volksbühne e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Neuaubing, part of the Aubing-Lochhausen-Langwied borough of Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1949, it performs Bavarian folk plays and comedies, mostly by Bavarian authors, and has staged more than 250 plays.[1]
History
The group was founded on 18 November 1949 as the Aubinger Heimatbühne and staged ten plays in its first season. After internal conflicts it split in 1953 into the Aubinger Heimatbühne Stamm and the Neuaubinger Volksbühne e. V., which settled in the Gasthaus Fischergartl on Limesstraße. In 1956 it acquired a standard bearing the arms of Aubing and the motto Ernst ist das Leben, heiter die Kunst. From 1958 to 1977 the Volksbühne was an independent section of the railway workers' sports club ESV Neuaubing; in 1966 it was recognised as a non-profit association.[2]
The group celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1979 with a founding festival and the consecration of a flag, and its 40th in 1989 with a celebration in the Wienerwald hall. In the late 1990s the hall of the Bayerisches Schnitzel- und Hendlhaus, its playing space, was renovated. The 70th anniversary in 2019 was marked by performances and festivities. The COVID-19 pandemic led to cancelled performances in 2020 and 2021; the group resumed playing in autumn 2021. In July 2022 it gave three charity performances whose proceeds went to an animal sanctuary, and in 2024 it celebrated its 75th anniversary.[2]
Repertoire
The association stages three plays a year, one in spring and two in autumn, each given five performances.[1] The repertoire consists of Bavarian comedies and farces.[3] The jubilee season of 2019 featured Das Verlegenheitskind.[2]

Venue
The group performs in the hall of the Bayerisches Schnitzel- & Hendlhaus at Limesstraße 63 in Neuaubing, which also serves as a meeting place for members and friends of the association.[1] The association repeatedly had to fight to keep this playing space, until the hall was thoroughly renovated in the late 1990s.[2]
