The Puppenbühne Lippelpie is a puppet theatre in Heilsbronn in the district of Ansbach, Middle Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 2013 by Irene Gesell, it performs table-top puppet plays, object theatre, hand puppets and "Klappmaul" (moving-mouth) puppets for children and adults, mostly adaptations of fairy tales, and is supported by volunteer players and a supporting association.[1][2]
History
From 2007 Irene Gesell and Pia Schmid-Gebhardt performed table-top puppet plays in nurseries and schools on a voluntary basis. In 2013 Gesell founded the Puppenbühne Lippelpie, turning this voluntary work into an independent theatre with a range of projects.[2] The group's own productions centre on the Quellquapp, described as Heilsbronn's fairy-tale figure, who also appears in town tours and an annual series of Advent stories; ten years of the Quellquapp were celebrated on 21 September 2024 in the Konventsaal in Heilsbronn.[2][3]
Repertoire
The repertoire consists of fairy tales and stories, among them Der Wolf und die sieben Geißlein, Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten, Das hässliche Entlein, Dornröschen, Frau Holle, Froschkönig, Hans im Glück, Hänsel und Gretel, Sterntaler, Das tapfere Schneiderlein, Des Kaisers Nachtigall and Sankt Martin, as well as stories such as Ahajute und der Wolkenfresser and Drache Gorandier.[1] The theatre's work also includes regular fairy-tale puppet shows in Heilsbronn, puppetry courses at schools, the annual Heilsbronn puppetry day, puppet-making courses and seminars, object-theatre films (ObjekTtief), lap-puppet and singing games for toddler groups, and "applied" puppet play with children and adults.[2][4]
Awards
According to the theatre, it has won a first prize of Larifari, the Bavarian amateur theatre award of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater.[5]
