Puppenspiel Am Schnürl e. V. is an amateur marionette theatre in Kaufering in the district of Landsberg, Upper Bavaria, Germany. It grew out of a puppetry working group founded in Landsberg am Lech in 1987 and has played since 2012 in its own theatre in the former gymnasium of the Kaufering primary school.[1]

History

Puppet and theatre enthusiasts from Landsberg founded the Arbeitskreis Puppenspiel (puppetry working group) in 1987. After a first production with rod puppets, the group built a mobile marionette stage in 1991. It later moved into the basement of the newly founded Katharinenschule in Landsberg, where, with support from the school and the town, it set up a small theatre; it opened in 1998 with Die Zaubergeige by Franz von Pocci. In 2009 the group lost these rooms, which were needed for other purposes.[1]

In 2012 the market municipality of Kaufering offered the group a new home: the former gymnasium of the Kaufering primary school was converted into the tag Theater an der Grundschule, where the group has played since spring 2012. At the same time it founded the registered association Puppenspiel Am Schnürl e. V.[1] After twelve performances of Michael Ende's Der satanarchäolügenialkohöllische Wunschpunsch the 2023/24 season ended; because of the renovation of the school, expected to take about 24 months, the theatre has been closed since autumn 2024.[2] In the meantime the ensemble has performed with its mobile stage, for example at the 2025 Advent market in Kaufering and in care homes.[3]

Repertoire

The group stages marionette plays, mostly fairy tales and stories for children and families; with a small mobile stage it also performs short Kasperl plays under the motto komisch – lustig – verrückt.[3]
