The Reichenhaller Theaterstadl e. V. is an amateur theatre group based in Piding in the Berchtesgadener Land district of Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1992, it performs rural comedies in Bavarian, most of them written by members of the group, and plays regularly at the Haus des Gastes in Bayerisch Gmain.[1][2]
History
The association was founded in 1992 by theatre enthusiasts under the motto of promoting Bauerntheater (rural folk theatre) as part of the culture and customs of the Berchtesgadener Land; most of the founding members already had stage experience. By early 1993 the group had built a complete stage set, and it gave its first performances in mid-1993. From 1994 it staged three-act plays written by its own members.[1] The group has toured outside Bavaria, including several tours of the Rhine-Main region and engagements in northern Germany.[1] In May 2015 members of the group were interviewed on the regional radio station Bayernwelle.[3] A performance planned for 22 April 2020 was cancelled.[4]
Repertoire
The group plays three-act Bavarian comedies. By 2013 its repertoire comprised twelve plays by its member Netty Berger, including A Liab kennt koane Grenzen, Ned alle Sterne sag’n de Wahrheit, Du Gamsbock, Du damischer, Prost, Mahlzeit und Halleluja, Hühnerbrust sucht Hahnenkamm and Junges Gemüse zum Anbeißen, as well as comedies by other authors such as Gangsterjagd am Moserhof by Emil Stürmer and Die Geisterbraut by Hannes Bauer.[2] New productions included Dudelsacklzement, des versteh wer will (premiere 12 June 2013)[2] and Wia im Hexenkessel (premiere 13 July 2016), each played alongside earlier plays in the same season.[3] In June 2022 the group premiered Die lustige Gangsterjagd at the Haus des Gastes.[5]
Venue
Unless stated otherwise, the group's performances take place at the Haus des Gastes in Bayerisch Gmain, run by the Bayerisches Staatsbad Bad Reichenhall/Bayerisch Gmain, usually on Wednesday evenings at intervals of a few weeks.[3][5]
