ReplayTheater e. V. is a non-profit theatre association based in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, whose drama educators and actors perform interactive prevention plays for schools and other institutions throughout Bavaria. Using the methods of forum theatre after Augusto Boal, its plays deal with bullying and violence, debt, gambling and, for older audiences, fraud against the elderly.[1][2]

Work

The association's purpose is to promote art and theatre in the fields of culture and education. Its plays are designed for the classroom but also work on a large stage; each lasts 90 minutes (two school lessons) and is intended for audiences of up to about 60 pupils. Using the "replay" technique, spectators intervene in the action, improvise alternative solutions and experience how small changes affect the course of events.[1] The group also offers project-based workshops and develops plays on prevention topics on commission.[2]

Repertoire

  • Ene, Mene, Mutig! – an interactive play about bullying and violence for pupils from the second year of primary school to the eighth grade, developed with the bullying research team of the psychology faculty of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.[3]
  • Alles oder Nichts – a "live reality soap" about friendship and gambling, developed with Aktion Jugendschutz, Landesarbeitsstelle Bayern.[4] It was performed, among other places, at the Celtis-Gymnasium in Schweinfurt in March 2014.[5]
  • Alles was zahlt – an interactive "web series" about debt traps for young people, developed with Cashless München, a youth-debt prevention project.[6]
  • Grüß Gott, schön, dass Sie das sind! – a prevention play about confidence tricks against older people; the Münchner Merkur and tz reported on it in January 2023.[7][5]

The group has played in schools, at a youth prison in Neuburg-Herrenwörth (2015) and at prevention events.[5]

Organisation

ReplayTheater's prevention plays on debt and gambling are subsidised by its partners, Cashless München and Aktion Jugendschutz Bayern.[5][2]

Awards

According to the association, it won a prize for innovation and creativity and was a finalist of the Kinder zum Olymp competition in 2016.[5]
