History
The group began in 1985 with a course called Wir spielen Theater at the local Volkshochschule. After a second course the participants wanted to work on theatre more intensively, and in April 1988 they founded the association StattTheater. They first performed at Haus Schuseil, an open cultural and youth centre of the town of Bad Salzuflen, and since 1994 have played at the Gelbe Schule. The group celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2026 with Stefan Eckel's comedy Außer Rand und Band.[1]
The ensemble emphasises collective work: productions are developed by the whole group, at least one play is staged each year, and the group avoids committing itself to a single genre.[1]
Repertoire
At the Lippe amateur theatre festival the group won the Gläserner Hermann award in 2008 with Die Dame von Dingsville and in 2009 with Efeu und die Dicke.[1]
