History
From 2001 Kolja Liebscher toured Germany with his shadow theatre under the name Schattenkolja; a small puppet stage with a vendor's-tray (Bauchladen) format followed later. After moving to Frammersbach, he set up his own small Zimmertheater (room theatre) there in 2016. On retiring in 2019 he gave up touring, and later, for health reasons, also stopped the regular performances in the Zimmertheater.[1] Because the original shadow stage took up to two hours to set up and needed its own van, he built a smaller shadow stage that could be set up in 45 minutes.[1][4]
The stage took part in the 3rd figure theatre festival of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. in Nuremberg in 2023,[5] and in the 4th festival in Kaufbeuren in April 2025 with Der Teufel nahm sich ein altes Weib.[6] It also performed at the Thüringer Figurentheaterfest in Lehesten in 2024 and 2025.[5] After a quarter of a century, the playing activity of Schattenkolja ended for good; its last performance was in Lehesten in 2026.[3]
Repertoire
The late repertoire of the small shadow stage comprised Das Rübchen, a Ukrainian folk tale after Ivan Franko (see The Gigantic Turnip); Kännchen voll, a Nordic tale; Der Teufel nahm sich ein altes Weib, a carnival play after Hans Sachs for adults; the Brothers Grimm's Hans im Glück; and Der dicke fette Pfannkuchen, newly staged for the 2025 Thüringer Figurentheaterfest.[4] The puppet stage played Das etwas andere Rumpelstilzchen, Der König mit der Schlangennase and Die Geburtstagsmaus for children from four years.[7]
Venue
The Zimmertheater was at Orber Straße 108 in Frammersbach.[2]
