The Schaumburger Bühne e. V. is an amateur theatre group in the Schaumburg district of Lower Saxony, Germany, affiliated with the district's adult education centre (Volkshochschule Schaumburg). Founded in 1985, it tours with comedies, classics and crime plays to venues around Schaumburg, with premieres in Obernkirchen.[1]
History and organisation
The ensemble, which describes itself as semi-professional, was founded in 1985. Its season is offered as a half-year course of the Volkshochschule and begins each summer with weekly rehearsals, held at the comprehensive school (IGS) in Obernkirchen. Since 2001 the actor and director Jürgen Morche has been its artistic director.[1]
As a touring theatre the group performs in Obernkirchen, Stadthagen, Bückeburg, Bad Eilsen and Rehburg-Loccum, and has also played in Bordenau, Blomberg and Kleinenbremen.[1]
Repertoire
The repertoire consists mainly of sophisticated comedies, as well as classic plays and crime plays.[1] Besides the main production of each season, the group stages summer projects such as Radiomorde (2021) and Reizende Wäsche (2022–2023), and in 2024 took part in a short-play festival in Osnabrück.[2]
On New Year's Eve 2024 it performed Norman Robbins's black comedy Schau nicht unters Rosenbeet to a full house in the hall of the Ratsgymnasium in Stadthagen; the Schaumburger Nachrichten reported minutes of applause and compared the play to Arsenic and Old Lace and Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None.[3] Its 2025/26 production was Wer ist im Bett mit dem Butler?, and for 2026/27 it is staging Neil Simon's farce Gerüchte… Gerüchte… (Rumors).[4]
