Schwarze Schafe e. V. is a student amateur theatre group in Bayreuth, Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1984 at the Katholische Hochschulgemeinde (KHG, Catholic university parish) of Bayreuth, it stages one play every semester, from tragedies and comedies to Shakespeare and plays written by its members.[1][2]

History

The group was formed in 1984 by a small circle of people at the KHG in Bayreuth who wanted to perform theatre together. In 2019 it had about 30 members, mostly students of various subjects.[2] It has been a registered association since 2018.[1]

Repertoire

The group directs its own productions; a directing team, usually two people, is elected each semester and chooses the play, and the performances take place at the end of the lecture period.[1][2] Productions include Friedrich Dürrenmatt's Der Besuch der alten Dame (The Visit, summer 2019),[2] Der Tod des Sherlock Holmes (July 2024),[3] Molière's Der Geizige (The Miser, premiere 26 July 2025)[4] and Drei Galgenvögel und ein Aas, a western comedy written by the member Mattes Apelt (July 2026).[1]

Venue

The group rehearses weekly in the Roncalli hall of the KHG. Each production is usually given four times at the KHG, with the final performance at the Glashaus in Bayreuth; earlier, one performance per semester also took place in the Stadthalle.[1][2]
