History
After a first success in 1999 with two sold-out evenings and four further sold-out performances in 2000, the group decided to found a registered association, which took place on 8 March 2001 with 13 founding members. Its premiere on 1 March 2002 opened Schwebheim's first Kulturwochen (culture weeks); since then the main production has been staged once a year in the upper hall (Oberer Saal) of the Bürgerhaus. The group has worked with other local clubs, contributing a musical one-act play to the spring concert of the Musikverein Schwebheim in 2001 and dramatised scenes for lectures of the local history group in 2004 and 2006. It marked its tenth anniversary in 2009/2010 and held a theatre workshop with professional support in autumn 2010.[1]
The productions planned for April 2020 were cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In December 2021 the group performed its Christmas play Am Tor zu Bethlehem as a livestream from the Bürgerhaus, and in 2022 it returned to live audiences after almost two years.[3][4] In 2026 it celebrated its 25th anniversary with the revue JUHUbiläum.[5]
Repertoire
Besides comedies and crime comedies, the group often stages revue-like evenings of sketches, songs, poems and live music, as well as short Christmas plays for the Schwebheim Christmas market and local events.[2][4] In summer it performs short plays by Hans Sachs in the open air, for example at the sheepfold in Schwebheim, at the Steigerwald-Zentrum in Handthal and on the Tag des offenen Denkmals at Schwebheim castle.[6]
