Seniorentheater in der Altstadt (SeTA) is a senior theatre ensemble in the old town of Düsseldorf, Germany, founded in 1989.[1] In 2014 the ensemble had 33 performers aged between 60 and 88.[2]
History
SeTA was founded in 1989 by Ernest Martin, then director of the Junges Theater in der Altstadt (JuTA), and the director Wolfgang Caspar, who led it artistically until 1993. Helga Dürr and Gertrud Schwan led the ensemble from 1994 to 1999, followed by Götz Langer from 2000 to 2005 and then by the director Marlin de Haan.[1] The theatre celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2014.[2] According to German Wikipedia, it has been invited to give guest performances as far afield as Paris and London.[1]
Repertoire
The ensemble presents one new production each year, in which directors work with the amateur performers on classic and contemporary plays. Productions have included Michel de Ghelderode's Kavalier Bizarr (2000, given as a German-language premiere), Elias Canetti's Die Befristeten (2003), Federico García Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba (2007) and Friedrich Dürrenmatt's Der Meteor (2012).[1]
In 2010 the ensemble received the Deutscher Amateurtheaterpreis for its production of Bertolt Brecht's A Respectable Wedding (Die Kleinbürgerhochzeit).[1]
Organisation
SeTA is run as a registered association (Seniorentheater in der Altstadt SeTA e.V.) and is a member of the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater (BDAT).[1][2]
