The Simsgaubühne Söchtenau is the theatre section of the sports club SV Söchtenau-Krottenmühl e. V. in Söchtenau near the Simssee, district of Rosenheim, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1975, it stages Bavarian comedies on its regular stage at the Gasthaus zur Post in Söchtenau and has also performed open-air productions and Stubenspiele (plays performed among the audience in inn parlours).[1][2]
History
Theatre was already performed in Söchtenau more than 50 years ago by a music and theatre society, but interest faded in the early 1960s and the plays stopped. On the initiative of Peter Hölzl, the sports club organised a Bunter Abend with several one-act plays in 1975; after its success, a full-length play was rehearsed the following year, and Hölzl led the newly founded theatre section, the Simsgaubühne Söchtenau, until 1986. He was followed by Gerhard Rüb (1986–1990) and Matthias Kirschner (from 1990).[1]
For its 20th anniversary in 1995 the group staged its first open-air play, Keine kann’s wie die Leni, at the Obinger farm in Dingbuch; the single performance drew more than 500 spectators sitting on straw bales. Further open-air productions followed in 1999 (a world premiere in Dingbuch), 2003 on the village square, 2008 and 2010. In 2003 the group staged its first Stubenspiel, s’Almröserl about the poacher Jennerwein, touring inns in the surrounding area into 2004; its 2005 Stubenspiel Geierwally brought it recognition beyond the municipality. For its 30th anniversary in 2005 it invited six neighbouring stages to a Theater-Hoagascht.[1] No productions took place in 2011, 2018, 2020–2022 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic) and 2024. Since 2012 the productions have been directed by Alfred Kronast.[1]
Repertoire
The group mainly plays Bavarian comedies and farces, with occasional classics in Bavarian versions, children's and youth productions, Stubenspiele and barn-theatre (Stadltheater) productions.[1]
