Swinging Puppets is a mobile puppet theatre run by Tania Schnagl from Wörth an der Donau in the district of Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany. It works mainly with mouth puppets and hand puppets, with music as a characteristic element.[1][2] In 2025 its production Gut gebrüllt, kleiner Löwe won first place in the figure theatre category of the Larifari Bavarian amateur theatre prize.[3][4]
Repertoire
The programme includes a 30-minute revue for adults, in which mouth puppets such as Theo Taste, Little Bird and Paolo sing and dance to music, and a 40-minute revue for children and families with singing and dancing animals and monsters.[1] In Gut gebrüllt, kleiner Löwe the 14 pieces of Camille Saint-Saëns's Carnival of the Animals are combined into a children's story about a little lion, with the music played live by a pianist; the performance lasts about 50 minutes.[1][5] Schnagl also appears with the mouth-puppet dog Lotte in short ventriloquist acts, has made video productions with the songwriter Jost Knapp, and since the COVID-19 pandemic has published short puppet scenes on YouTube.[1] In October 2023 Swinging Puppets took part in a meeting of lambe-lambe (miniature box) theatres at the klapps festival in Augsburg.[6]
Organisation
Swinging Puppets is the stage of the puppeteer and music teacher Tania Schnagl, who trained at the Orff Institute in Salzburg and has worked as a media officer for the figure theatre district of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. since 2015.[7]
Awards
In 2025 Swinging Puppets won first place in the figure theatre (Figurentheater) category of the Larifari – Bayerischer Amateurtheaterpreis of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. with Gut gebrüllt, kleiner Löwe (Karneval der Tiere).[3][4]
