Theater unterm Kirchturm e. V. (TUK) is an amateur theatre group of the Catholic parish of St. Josef der Arbeiter in Oberwöhr, a district of Rosenheim, Upper Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1983, it stages boulevard comedies on a stage beside the foundations of the church tower, and since 1998 has had a children's theatre group, the TUKis.[1]
History
In 1983 the parish priest asked Manfred Ruppert to start a choir; instead he founded a Jugendtheater (youth theatre), so called because its actors were all youth group leaders of the parish. Its first production was Das Wunder des hl. Florian, followed in the next years by rural farces. When the members grew older, the group was renamed Theater unterm Kirchturm, after its stage directly beside the foundations of the church tower.[1] Since its 25th anniversary in 2008 it has served food and drink at performances. The theatre was damaged by the 2013 floods; after renovation it now has a revolving stage. In 2018 the group became a registered association, and it celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023.[1]
Repertoire
From the mid-1990s the repertoire moved from farces via plays such as Das Streichquartett and one-act plays by Ludwig Thoma to boulevard comedies.[1]
