The Theater- und Musikverein Albaching (TMVA) is an amateur theatre and music association in Albaching in the Rosenheim district, Upper Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1986 as a theatre club, it stages one production every autumn in the Albaching Bürgersaal and has also offered music lessons since 1996.[1][2]

History

Before the club was founded, amateur actors from Albaching performed as part of the local Landjugend (rural youth association) in the Gasthaus Edhofer, with comedies such as Der Liebhaber im Reisekorb (1981) and several plays by Sepp Faltermaier (1982–1984).[1][3] The association was founded in 1986 as Theaterverein Albaching e. V. with 16 members. In 1996 it added a music department, which offers lessons in various instruments for children, young people and adults, and was renamed Theater- und Musikverein Albaching e. V.. According to its website it now has almost 200 members.[1]

Repertoire

The theatre department stages one play a year, normally in autumn, ranging from Bavarian folk comedies and self-written plays to classics.[2] The association states that it aims to free amateur theatre from its image of slapstick farce (Schenkelklopfer-Komödien).[1] Several productions deal with local history: Oibich brennt (1994) is set in 16th-century Albaching ("Oibich" in dialect) under the Counts of Haag, D'Jubiläumsblamage (2008) was arranged in Bavarian dialect for the village's 1200th anniversary, and Die Nacht der Hirschn (2016) is built around Albaching's traditional pilgrimage to Rechtmehring.[4][5][6] Classics are often relocated to Bavaria and played in Bavarian; the 2024 Arsen und Spitzenhäubchen, for example, is set in Haag.[7] The 2000 musical Jonas was produced together with the rhythm group "Neues Leben".[1]

The club has staged about 40 productions.[8]
