The Theater Brackwede is an amateur theatre group in Brackwede, a district of Bielefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Founded in 1989 as a group of the Protestant parish of St. Bartholomäus in Brackwede, it specialises in boulevard comedies, which it performs in the hall of the Gymnasium Brackwede.[1][2]
History
The group started in 1989 with short sketches and appearances at parish festivals. Its first full-length play followed in 1992, which the group sees as the foundation of its later focus on boulevard comedy. The ensemble of 12 to 16 actors, all volunteers, handles direction, technical work, sets and organisation itself.[1] In February 2024 members of the group were guests on Radio Bielefeld.[3]
Repertoire
The group's productions include Zu früh getraut by Klaus Mitschke, Putzfrauen und Waschlappen by Rolf Sperling, In der Klemme by Derek Benfield, Gute Geister by Pam Valentine, Künstlerpech by Jürgen Baumgarten, Alles in Butter by Edward Taylor and Ein Joghurt für Zwei by Stanley Price.[1] The group took a summer break in 2026 and is preparing its 2027 season.[3]
Venue
Performances take place in the hall (Aula) of the Gymnasium Brackwede in the Beckumer Straße.[4]
