History
In spring 2012, as part of a quality campaign, the Sparkasse HRV held an unconventional staff meeting at which some employees performed short sketches showing how a bank adviser should not behave. The response led to the idea of a theatre group of the bank's own, and the first meeting of the group "FreiRaum" took place at the end of 2012. Rehearsal rooms, money for scenery, costumes and props, and further actors and backstage helpers were then found.[1]
The group's first production followed in 2014. In March 2020 the performances of (St)Erben ist tödlich in the hall of the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Velbert were cancelled after the premiere weekend, when the town called off all events in its venues because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[2]
