Theater Gersthofen e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Gersthofen in the district of Augsburg, Swabia, Bavaria, Germany.[1] Active since 1981, it stages a spring production in the Stadthalle Gersthofen, for many years mainly Bavarian comedies by Peter Landstorfer.[2][3]

History

The association describes itself as an amateur theatre "in Gersthofen since 1981"; its first production, in 1981, was Engel in der Hölle.[4][2] From 2003 to 2019 most of its productions were directed by the same person, who was also the association's artistic director in 2016.[2][5] In 2015 the association staged both Da Leftutti and, together with the Bühnenfreunde Augsburg, the Bayerischer Jedermann on the Rathausplatz; at its 2016 annual general meeting the board described the lack of young members as a recurring problem.[5] In July 2019 members took part in an open-air production of Der Brandner Kaspar und das ewig' Leben on the Rathausplatz, staged by KOL-LA Gersthofen for the town's 50th anniversary.[6]

The spring production planned for 11–12 April 2026 in the Stadthalle was cancelled in December 2025; the association said it was planning a production for the autumn instead.[7]

Repertoire

In its early years the association played German farces and comedies such as Der Meisterboxer, Die spanische Fliege and Pension Schöller alongside Bavarian folk plays. From 2003 the repertoire was dominated by the three-act Bavarian comedies of Peter Landstorfer; in some years a second, smaller piece followed, such as a Christmas play.[2] In 2020 the association announced a short Christmas play at the Gasthof Stern in Gersthofen.[8]
