Theater PUR is an independent amateur theatre group based in Pullach im Isartal, Upper Bavaria, Germany.[1] It grew out of a theatre course at the local Volkshochschule in 2006–2007 and has since staged comedies, dramas and plays written by its director, Holger Ptacek, mainly at the Bürgerhaus Pullach and other stages in and around Munich.[1][2]
History
In 2006 the professional director and puppeteer Holger Ptacek offered a theatre course at the vhs Pullach with the aim of putting on a production and possibly forming a permanent group. In 2007 the participants chose Theresia Walser's Die Kriegsberichterstatterin as their first play, and Ptacek named the group Theater PUR; it gave its first premiere in the Bürgerhaus Pullach in February 2008. The group then grew to 14 people and wrote its own comedy, Altes Eisen, which premiered in October 2009. By 2011 it had grown to 20 participants and was split into two projects, a comedy group and a group performing tragedies.[1]
In 2014, as the first guest performances were being arranged, the ensemble left the umbrella of the vhs Pullach and became independent, joining the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. the same year. From 2015 it played regularly at the Kultbühne im Iberl in Solln, Munich, and gave guest performances elsewhere, including in Babenhausen near Augsburg and at Munich stages such as Heppel & Ettlich and the Theater ...UND SO FORT. It celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2016 with three premieres, and the premiere of Nonstop Nonnen in 2018 was the group's 100th performance. After a change of tenant at the Iberl in 2019 the group lost this venue.[1] The municipality of Pullach described the ensemble in 2023 as presenting "witty or moving" plays under Ptacek's direction, often written by him.[2]
Repertoire
The repertoire combines modern classics and comedies with plays written by the ensemble or by Ptacek, including adaptations of Aristophanes and Ben Jonson.[1] A family comedy by Ptacek, Frauen 5 vor 12, was announced for a premiere in March 2020 and was still advertised on the group's website in 2026; it does not appear in the group's list of past productions.[1][3][4]
