Theater Zwischenton e. V. is an amateur theatre association based in Ebersberg, Upper Bavaria, Germany. The group began playing in 2000 under the name Die Z'sammklaubt'n and became a registered association under its present name in 2007; it deliberately avoids traditional folk theatre and stages modern plays, classics and pieces written by its own members.[1][2]
History
In 2000 three of the later founding members looked for a way to play theatre in Ebersberg. They found it in a course at the local adult education centre (Volkshochschule), led by a trained actress, from which an ensemble of nine players formed in the first semester. With the declared aim of not playing folk theatre, they chose Michael Ende's Das Gauklermärchen as their first piece, staged as Zirkus der begrenzten Möglichkeiten. Under the name Die Z'sammklaubt'n the group aimed at one production a year and staged six productions up to 2007.[1]
In 2007 the members founded the association Theater Zwischenton e. V.[1][2] After the first director left, the group worked with several other directors; since 2014 most productions have been directed by a professional actress and director.[1][2] In 2015 the acting group had grown so much that it split into two ensembles.[1]
Repertoire
The repertoire ranges from classics and modern plays to collages and pieces written in the group's own Autorenwerkstatt (authors' workshop). The workshop's first play, TrueLove – Wa(h)re Liebe, premiered on 24 September 2010 and was performed 13 times up to July 2012; its second, TrueLife – Leben am Limit, premiered in October 2015 at the Altes Kino in Ebersberg.[3] In 2016 the group presented Mein Name ist Prinz Paradox, a collage of scenes, letters and poems by Oscar Wilde,[4] and in 2018 Lantana by the Australian playwright Andrew Bovell.[2] For 2026 the group announced a self-written play, Auf der Suche nach dem Glück, with performances in Ebersberg, Waldkraiburg, Munich, Kirchseeon and Zorneding.[5][6]
The group's own list also includes the undated productions Die Kommune (before 2018),[2] So is(s)t das Leben! (a dinner-theatre piece with a three-course menu), Time Out, After Work (an office farce by Markus Czeslik, premiere planned for 21 November 2020), an evening of one-act plays by Anton Chekhov (Der Bär, Der Heiratsantrag, Die Hochzeit) and Der Sturm.[7][1] No production is listed for 2004, 2007 and 2012.
