The Theater am Bahnhof Abensberg e. V. (TAB) is an amateur theatre association in Abensberg, district of Kelheim, Lower Bavaria, Germany. Since 2008 it has run its own theatre in a converted goods shed next to Abensberg station, with its own productions, a children's and youth group, an improv group and guest performances.[1][2]
History
The theatre group Lampenfieber, with adult and junior ensembles, had performed since 1996 at changing venues in Abensberg – the Aventinum, the Kuchlbauer town inn (in its side hall and cellar), the Troadstadl foyer and a tower room of the castle. In 2006 its members began converting the leaky-roofed goods shed at the station, built in 1916, into a theatre. After two years of construction, chairman Benno Kreuzmair opened the Theater am Bahnhof on 19 September 2008.[2] The writer and actor Werner Asam, patron of the theatre, gave it his play Der Heldenstammtisch free of charge and directed it himself; he died in March 2026.[1]
Repertoire
The repertoire ranges from classics to contemporary comedies and dramas, children's plays and improvised theatre by the group Impro Express Abensberg.[1]
