The Theater am Türmchen e. V. (also Theater am Türmchen) is an amateur theatre group in Lambsheim in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis district of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.[1] Active since 1994, it mainly stages comedies, many of them in Palatine German dialect, and also runs an improvisational theatre group and hosts guest performances.[2]

History

The group gave its first performance on 10 June 1994 with Richard Müller's dialect play Die Borjemeeschderwahl.[3] It celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2019 with a production of Einmal ist Keinmal[4] and its 30th anniversary in 2024 with guest performances and a revival of its 2003 comedy Nix am Seiher.[2]

In 2018 the group's website presented the station theatre Ausgepackt – Lambsheimer Koffergeschichten, written by members of the Chawwerusch Theater of Herxheim and commissioned by the municipality of Lambsheim for its 1250th anniversary. Six self-contained scenes were played at six historic sites in the village, with 25 performances on two weekends in September 2018.[5][6] In 2017 the group gave performances for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, including one on Reformation Day.[7] After almost three years without performances, it returned to the stage in March 2022 with Gretchen 89ff.[8]

Repertoire

The group began with Palatine dialect comedies, several of them adaptations of classics such as Molière's The Imaginary Invalid (De Jammerlabbe) and The Miser (De Geizhals), the latter played in historical costumes.[9][10] From 1997 it also staged translated and contemporary comedies such as Valentin Katajew's Ich will Miussow sehen and Gabriel Barylli's Honigmond and Butterbrot.[11] In 2023 it staged a commissioned dialect comedy on the "Lambsheim cucumber war" of 1963, a local dispute over imported French cucumbers and falling prices.[12][13] Other productions listed on its website without a year include Der nackte Wahnsinn (the German title of Michael Frayn's Noises Off) and Ölbrinz vunn Lamsem by Rudy van Kupferschmitt.[14][12]
