Theater im Kloster is an amateur theatre group in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is the theatre group of the Catholic parish of St. Theresia and usually stages one production each autumn, played on eight evenings on the stage of the parish hall.[1][2]
History
The group celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2010, which dates its beginnings to 1985.[2] From 1985 to 1988 it staged dialect plays (Mundartstücke), followed by Michael Ende's Der Goggolori in 1989.[3] The group has been a member of the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater (BDAT) since mid-1997 and uses its seminars in acting, singing, directing and make-up.[2] After a break in 2020 and 2021 the group returned in 2022 with Michael Frayn's Der nackte Wahnsinn.[3]
Repertoire
The repertoire ranges from comedy and crime plays to classical drama. All productions are directed by members of the group, who also build the sets and make the lighting, costumes and make-up themselves.[1][2] In the 1990s the group also staged Christmas plays and a nativity play, and in 2005 it gave a reading of Ludwig Thoma's Heilige Nacht.[3]
