The Theaterbühne Manching e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Manching near Ingolstadt, Upper Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1973, it stages Bavarian comedies and farces, traditionally with a spring and an autumn production each year, and has also mounted several large open-air productions.[1][2]

History

Amateur theatre in Manching predates the association: between 1929 and 1934 several clubs performed in the village inns, and the local Trachtenverein (traditional costume club) staged plays from 1949 to 1957 and again from 1968 until 1972. After the costume club stopped, its director proposed founding an independent theatre club, and on 5 April 1973 twenty-five supporters of folk theatre founded the Theaterbühne Manching. Each founding member contributed 50 Deutsche Mark towards the first purchases, above all a new stage, and the parish provided its parish hall as the playing space. The first production in 1973 was Der Susi ihr G'spusi.[1]

The association later moved from the parish hall to the Aula of the Lindenkreuz school; the anniversary report links the move to the change of chairman in 1990 in one passage but says the group was based in the parish hall until 2000 in another. With the open-air production Gump und Gänswürger in 2006 and 2008 the group became known beyond Manching.[1] In June 2013 it celebrated its 40th anniversary with a festive evening and staged the open-air play Der Holledauer Schimmel at the Sportpark Manching with up to 80 participants.[1] In 2016 the association's youth group staged a children's and youth production.[3]

During the COVID-19 pandemic the group staged no productions in 2020 and 2021, returning with an autumn play in 2022.[4][5][6] For its 50th anniversary the association revived its first play, Der Susi ihr Gspusi; the first performances sold out and an extra performance was added.[7][8][9]

Repertoire

The repertoire consists mainly of Bavarian Lustspiele, Schwänke and folk plays in three acts by authors of the amateur-stage repertoire such as Franz Schaurer, Ulla Kling, Bernd Gombold and Ralph Wallner. From 1975 to 2019 the group usually gave a spring production (Frühjahrstheater, in April) and an autumn production (Herbsttheater, in November). Open-air productions took place in 2006, 2008 and 2013.[10][2]
