The Theaterbrettl Sulzemoos e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Sulzemoos, in the district of Dachau, Upper Bavaria, Germany, that performs Bavarian folk theatre.[1] Since its first production in 1988 it has staged a three-act comedy almost every year, now each November in the Mehrzweckhalle Sulzemoos.[1]
History
Theatre was already performed in Sulzemoos in the 1950s and 1960s; the Theaterbrettl later grew out of the youth group and the football section of the sports club SV Sulzemoos. In 1988 a member proposed staging a three-act play at the club's Christmas party, and 13 players performed No amoi a Lausbua sei; an extra performance was added. After a second production in 1989, 23 people founded the theatre association in January 1990. In 1991 it joined the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. and adopted its statutes, and in 1992 it was entered in the register as Theaterbrettl Sulzemoos e. V.[1]
Also in 1992 the association held its first Theaterbrettlfest, since held every two years, and began sending a Saint Nicholas around the village in early December. A children's carnival ball followed in 1994, and from 1994 to 2001 the association had its own Schuhplattler group. Between 1994 and 1997 a stage was built as an extension of the sports club's hall, together with the sports club and with financial help from the municipality; the first production on the new stage took place in 1995, the year the association welcomed its 100th member. In 1998 the youth members staged their own three-act play, Der ungewaschene Bräutigam, for the first time. From 2001 the association had contacts with Bayerischer Rundfunk, from which it received the outdoor scenery still used today. In 2002 and 2003 members built a storage hall in about 850 hours of voluntary work. For its 20th stage anniversary in 2008 the association published a Festschrift.[1][2] Members appeared in small roles in the Komödienstadel production Achterbahn ins Glück, broadcast in 2002.[1][3]
Repertoire
The main production each year is a Bavarian three-act comedy in November, with five performances that, according to the association, are usually almost sold out within a few hours. During the year the association also performs sketches and short plays at village events, and a children's group rehearses sketches and fairy tales.[1] Since 2007 most of its main productions have been comedies by Bernd Gombold. No main production is listed for 2020.[1] The 2008 Festschrift also lists additional productions in 1991, 1995, 1996 and 1998, among them the youth play of 1998.[2]
