Theaterfreunde Altusried e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Altusried, Oberallgäu district, Bavaria, Germany, a village known for its open-air plays, the Freilichtspiele Altusried.[1] The association stages about one production a year in the local Theaterkästle, ranging from classical drama to contemporary comedy, and runs a youth theatre workshop.[2][3]
History
The association's list of productions begins in 2010 with Johann Nestroy's Der Zerrissene and Goldoni's Mirandolina.[2] Some productions, such as the family play Die Zauberlehrlinge (premiere 10 December 2016), are co-produced with the Theaterkästle, the village's cultural venue, and many members also take part in the Freilichtspiele, for example in the 2022 production Wir Räuber – Schiller und der bayerische Hiasl.[4][1] In 2018 it started the youth workshop Kids for Kästle.[3] After years without rooms of its own, the association converted the former sauna of the Theaterkästle building into a clubhouse, Die Kulisse, in 2020, with about 24,000 euros from the Land in Sicht programme of the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater (BDAT), the municipality and three foundations.[5] In May 2024, together with the Theaterkästle, it hosted the Swabian theatre days (Schwäbische Theatertage) of the Swabian district of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater, with about 60 participants.[6]
Repertoire
The repertoire combines classics such as Schiller, Shakespeare, Ibsen and Molière with modern plays, comedies and literary matinées.[2]

Organisation
Since September 2018 the association has run Kids for Kästle, weekly theatre workshops for children and young people aged 8 to 16 using improvisation and theatresports, led by professional actresses; 29 children took part in three groups in 2025/26. Workshop groups have presented their own pieces such as Koffergeschichten (2019) and alone@home (2022).[3]
