Theaterfreunde Machtlfing e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Machtlfing, part of the municipality of Andechs in the district of Starnberg, Upper Bavaria, Germany.[1] Founded in 1992, it stages one Bavarian comedy each autumn in the Klostergasthof Andechs and also has a children's theatre group.[2][3]
History
Amateur theatre in Machtlfing had been kept up for decades by the local Burschenverein (young men's association) until 1988. On 1 March 1992 former players met at the invitation of Heinrich Pain to revive it; since the Burschenverein had no interest in continuing, they decided to found an independent theatre club. The founding meeting on 8 May 1992 was attended by 30 people. In its first year the association was entered in the register of associations and recognised as a non-profit organisation, and the first comedy, Die Feuerwehrsitzung, was staged in autumn 1993. By 1 October 2002 it had 80 members, 13 of them children and young people.[2]
Repertoire
The group performs Bavarian folk comedies and farces, many by Peter Landstorfer and Gerhard Loew, as well as German versions of farces by Ray Cooney and his son Michael Cooney.[3]

Venue
Since its first production in 1993 the group has played in the Klostergasthof Andechs, the inn of Andechs Abbey.[2][4]
Organisation
The children's theatre began in spring 1998 and first performed short sketches at the parish festival on 12 July 1998; it has since given plays at the club's Christmas party, at senior citizens' afternoons in Machtlfing and at celebrations in neighbouring villages.[5] A historical dance group, Amici Saltantes, formed for Machtlfing's 1,200th anniversary celebrations, performed at medieval festivals and other events until 2023.[6]
