Theatergemeinschaft Mammendorf e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Mammendorf, district of Fürstenfeldbruck, Upper Bavaria, Germany.[1] Founded in 1978 by the local sports club and the Catholic young men's association, it stages a Bavarian comedy every January in the Bürgerhaus Mammendorf.[2][3]
History
Amateur theatre in Mammendorf was long carried by the Catholic Burschenverein (young men's association), which staged its first play, Berggeist Rübezahl, in the Gasthaus Schilling in January 1912, one year after its foundation. Apart from the two world wars it kept the tradition alive, playing at Easter and Christmas after 1946, until its last production, Der schwarze Peter, on 26 December 1969. Other clubs, including the choral society, the sports club and the fire brigade, also performed in the post-war years.[4]
In 1978 Hermann Schindler, chairman of the sports club SV Mammendorf, proposed that the sports club and the Burschenverein revive theatre together in a joint Theatergemeinschaft, to which each club delegated five members and its chairman. The founding meeting took place on 13 September 1978 in the sports club's restaurant, where volunteers built a stage. The first play, Ferien auf dem Bauernhof, premiered on 26 December 1978 and was seen by 770 spectators; at Easter 1979 the group followed with one-act plays by Ludwig Thoma. Plays were then given at Easter and after Christmas, sometimes for up to 2,000 spectators in a season, and from 1986 the group also held a theatre ball during carnival.[4]
After disputes between the boards of the Theatergemeinschaft and the sports club, the two founding clubs agreed that the group should become an independent association; the conversion was carried out at the members' meeting of 7 December 1989.[4] The association celebrated its 25th anniversary on 27 September 2003. When the sports club's restaurant, its home until then, was replaced by the new Bürgerhaus in 2008, the group moved to the new stage there.[4][2] In March 2014 it had 136 members.[4] In total it has staged almost 60 plays.[2]
Repertoire
The association performs comedies, folk plays and musical plays, with performances usually in the first half of January. About 30 actors aged 20 to 70 and about 15 helpers behind the stage are active.[2][1] Recent productions include Peter Landstorfer's Da Pfennigfuchser (2013/14), the 1950s comedy Hulahupp und Himbeerguatl by Ralph Wallner, directed by Tobias Heimerl, and Der bezahlte Urlaub in January 2027.[4][3][5]
Venue
Since 2009 the group has played on the stage of the Bürgerhaus Mammendorf, Jahnweg 11; before that it performed in the sports club's restaurant (Sportgaststätte).[2][6]
Organisation
The Theatergemeinschaft was sponsor association (Patenverein) at the 25th anniversary of the Theaterverein Schöngeising in 1996, and took part in the procession for Mammendorf's 1,250th anniversary in 2008.[4]
