Theatergemeinschaft Prutting e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Prutting, district of Rosenheim, Upper Bavaria, Germany.[1] Founded in 1966, it stages Bavarian folk plays and comedies and celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2026.[2][3]
History
On the initiative of Georg Hell, chairman of the local Trachtenverein (costume association), and Bernhard Rinser, head of the Catholic rural youth of Prutting, the people of Prutting interested in amateur theatre were invited through the Oberbayerisches Volksblatt to a meeting at the Kehrerwirt inn on 4 November 1966, with the aim of reviving the village's former theatre tradition after the Kerer family had built a large hall. Twenty people founded the Theatergemeinschaft Prutting. In January 1967 members built a new stage, financed by the municipality, the district youth council and donations, and the first play, D' Wirtszenzl von Aschau, was a success; afterwards the group performed every year at Easter and Christmas, with few exceptions, alternating comedies, poaching dramas and rural farces.[2]
The group joined the Volksspielkunstverband Bayern in November 1977 and received a new statute in 1978, when the offices of chairman and director were separated. In 1983 it contributed a one-act play to an association day in Rosenheim, and it performed Der Herrgottschnitzer von Ammergau at the international theatre days in Rosenheim. The decision of 1988 to become a registered association was implemented in September 1991.[2] In 2000 the Kerersaal, its stage since 1966, closed; from 2001 the group played in the Prutting gymnasium, turning the whole hall into a stage with eight sets along the walls for Der Holledauer Schimmel. In 2004 it secured the right to buy a listed timber-framed barn, which it bought after the founding of the Förderverein Dorfstadl in 2006 together with the carnival guild, the costume and shooting associations and the municipality.[2]
Repertoire
The association has staged more than 80 productions, mostly Bavarian folk plays, farces and comedies, but also poaching dramas such as Jennerwein, historical plays, one-act evenings and an open-air Hänsel und Gretel. Music before the performances and in the intervals was provided by the Pruttinger Stubenmusik until 1986 and by the Pruttinger Stammtischmusikanten from 1987.[4][2]

Venue
From 1966 to 2000 the group played in the hall of the Kerer inn (Kerersaal), and from 2001 in the Prutting gymnasium. Its website now presents the association as "theatre and culture in the Pruttinger Dorfstadl", the barn bought for that purpose in 2006.[2][3]
Organisation
Since 1979 the association has organised an annual pre-Christmas visit of Prutting children to the children's theatre in Rosenheim and has rehearsed nativity plays with children for the village Advent singing. Its members have attended courses of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V., it has hosted make-up courses and a district day of the association, and it holds a summer party for its members.[2]
