The Theatergruppe „Rasselglocke“ München is an amateur theatre group in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, performing comedies in Bavarian dialect written mostly by its own members.[1] It was formed in 1988, largely by employees of the Munich municipal transport company, and is named after the warning bell of Munich's trams.[2]
History
In 1982 Robert A. Nemecek founded a theatre group from the parents' council of the kindergarten "Zu den hl. Engeln" in Giesing, the Oba-Giasinga-Laienspielgruppe, which performed plays he had written in the parish hall of the Holy Angels. When it broke up in spring 1988, Nemecek, an employee of the Munich transport company, formed a new group mainly from his colleagues; it was named Rasselglocke after the bell tram drivers ring to warn motorists on the tracks.[2][1] The group gave its first play in October 1988 in the transport company's holiday home in Straßlach and later moved between several Munich venues. From 1997 Nemecek's plays were published by the MundArt Verlag. After Nemecek's death on 10 June 2004, the group continued to stage plays written by its members, above all by Heidi Müller.[1]
Repertoire
The group performs its own comedies in Bavarian dialect, usually twice a year, in spring and autumn.[1][3]
