Theatergruppe Stephanskirchen 1982 e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Stephanskirchen, district of Rosenheim, Upper Bavaria, Germany.[1] Its present group has performed since 1982, until 2020 as the theatre group of the local Jungbauernschaft (young farmers' association), and by 2026 had staged 42 plays on 222 evenings in the school hall, the Antrettersaal and in the open air.[1][2]
History
Theatre was already played in Stephanskirchen in the 1920s. In October 1933 the Theatergesellschaft Stephanskirchen was founded and performed Der Holledauer Fidel at the Gasthaus Antretter; it was active until 1939. On 2 February 1947 a new Spiel- und Theatergruppe applied for permission, which the military government granted; its production of Der Holledauer Fidel had seven sold-out performances, and in 1951 no performance could take place because of an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. From 1958 to 1966 the Catholic rural youth continued the tradition, after which it gradually came to an end.[1][3]
Encouraged by successful productions in neighbouring villages, one-act plays were revived in 1977. In October 1982 the theatre group of the Jungbauernschaft gave its first performances of Die falsche Katz in the hall of the secondary school, with support from the municipality. On 23 March 1987 the group was officially founded with 18 founding members and joined the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. In 1991 it moved into the newly built Antrettersaal.[1] The group staged large open-air productions in 2004, Hofleiten, for the 150th anniversary of the union of Hofleiten and Stephanskirchen, and in 2010, Thomas Gillitzer – Der Traum vom Glück in the Hofau, Stephanskirchen's contribution to the Landesgartenschau in Rosenheim.[4] Since 2020 it has been a registered association, the Theatergruppe Stephanskirchen 1982 e. V.[1]
Repertoire
The group stages one Bavarian comedy or folk play a year, with an average of 190 spectators per performance in the hall and 385 at the open-air productions; more than 400 people, including 85 actors and 360 extras for the open-air plays, have taken part.[2]
