Theatergruppe Berg e.V. „Lauter Komödianten“ is an amateur theatre group based in Berg (Pfalz) in the district of Germersheim, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.[1] It grew out of theatre evenings held in the village since the 1950s, became an association in 1995 and stages one comedy a year in the Gemeinschaftshalle in Berg.[2][3]

History

Individual theatre performances took place in Berg from the 1950s, and over time a regular core of players formed. From 1981 regular theatre evenings were organised under the umbrella of the Kulturring, the association of all local clubs, as part of its annual end-of-year celebration.[4][2] On 4 August 1995 ten residents founded the Theatergruppe Berg in the tower room of the Catholic parish church; it was called a "group" to signal that it was open to everyone in the village.[2]

The statutes were amended in 2004 to apply for registration, and in 2005, the group's tenth anniversary year, it was recognised as a non-profit association and entered in the register of associations in Landau. In 2006 and 2007 the group bought its own sound system.[2] For its 20th anniversary in 2015 the annual play was performed on two evenings for the first time.[2]

The production planned for the 25th anniversary in 2020 was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and no plays were staged from 2020 to 2022.[5][3] The group returned to the stage on 28 and 29 April 2023 with Neurosige Zeiten, drawing more than 400 spectators over the two evenings, a record for the group.[2][3] In December 2022 it had 104 members, of whom 34 were active players.[4]

Repertoire

The group concentrates on comedies and farces, including standard German comedies and Bavarian Schwänke; it describes its work as committed to dialect theatre (Mundarttheater).[4][2] Since 1981 it has usually staged one play a year, and from 2002 to 2019 each production drew between about 220 and 362 spectators.[5]
