Theatergruppe Brand is an amateur theatre association in Brand, district of Tirschenreuth, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany, in the Fichtel Mountains.[1] Founded in 1986 by a group of young people, it stages plays in the Upper Palatinate dialect nearly every year and organises the village's annual Kirwa (church fair).[1][2]
History
The group was formed in 1986 by young people under the guidance of the then parish priest Richard Bauer and Tobias Reiß; its first plays in 1985/86 were staged in the parish hall. In 1989 it organised its first Kirwa, and in 1991/92 it performed Der Brandner Kasper as its first production in the Mehrzwecksaal. The theatre group became an association in 1994. In the 2000s it also presented music, a cappella and cabaret evenings, and in the 2010s it concentrated on youth work, starting with a workshop in 2012. Its youth group staged Die Schule der Piraten in 2015 and Der Bayrische Vampir in 2019; a second youth group made its debut in 2023. In 2026 the association celebrated its 40th anniversary over four weekends and with a film about its history.[3][2][4] By then it had almost 150 members of several generations.[1]
Repertoire
The association is committed to traditional folk theatre and dialect plays but occasionally tries other forms, such as a crime dinner in 2024 or Marc Camoletti's farce Boeing Boeing in 2026.[2][3]

Venue
Since 1991 the group has played in the Brand multi-purpose hall (Brandner Mehrzwecksaal), a former school building at Max-Reger-Straße 22. The hall on the upper floor seats 210 spectators; when the building was converted the group was able to specify a fixed stage with a rail system for sets and a make-up room. The building also houses its costumes, props store and group room.[2][5]
Organisation
Besides the plays the association organises the traditional Kirwa on the third weekend of October, with the Kirwatanz dance and the Umespielen custom, as well as a monthly members' meeting and youth group meetings.[1][2]
