Theatergruppe Ebelsbach e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Ebelsbach, district of Haßberge, Lower Franconia, Bavaria, Germany.[1] Formed in 1984, it stages comedies, farces and occasionally literary plays and crime plays in the Bürgersaal of Ebelsbach, and donates much of its income to charitable and cultural causes.[1]
History
The group formed in 1984 on the initiative of Bruno Schöpplein and Dieter Kraft and began with the rural farce Hurra Zwillinge in the parish hall. With its third play, Die hölzerne Jungfrau (1986), it moved to the school's gymnastics room, and in 1991, with Eine verrückte Familie, to the new Bürgersaal of the Ebelsbach centre. From 1990 it also performed in Ebelsbach's partner municipality Steinbach in the Erzgebirge. In 1992 Bernd Schmitt, a director from the Musiktheater Stuttgart, staged Wolfgang Borchert's Draußen vor der Tür with the group. In 1997 the group became a registered association. It staged Brecht's Der gute Mensch von Sezuan in 2001 and marked its 20th anniversary in October 2004 by reviving Der Watschenkrieg am Ochsenhof, first performed 17 years earlier. Since a first guest performance with Das Eigentor, it has performed every year at the invitation of a carnival club in Grafenrheinfeld. For its 25th anniversary it performed Ein Dachschaden mit Zwischenfällen, the first of several farces by its member Rudi Klos; in 2011 it staged its first crime play, Agatha Christie's Die Mausefalle. By its 30th anniversary in 2014 the group had staged 36 plays, and it celebrated its 40th anniversary on 26 October 2024 with Sechs Richtige im Seniorenheim.[1]
Repertoire
The repertoire consists mainly of comedies and rural farces, complemented by literary plays and crime plays; a children's group (Theaterkids) also performs, for example a Christmas play in December 2026.[1][2]
