Theatergruppe Kirchenthumbach e. V. is an amateur theatre group in Kirchenthumbach, district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1989, it stages one comedy each November in the local parish hall.[1]
History
On 15 June 1989 fifteen residents of Kirchenthumbach met under the direction of Thomas Frankenberger with the aim of reviving the local tradition of amateur theatre and making use of the mobile stage in the parish hall (Pfarrheim). The group's first production, Der Hahnenkampf by Heinrich Lautensack, followed in November 1989. Encouraged by its success, the players decided to hold "Kirchenthumbacher Theatertage" every November.[1]
In October 1992 the players and supporters organised themselves as a club, which was entered in the register of associations on 1 November 1994. From 1998 to 2001 the group had its own youth section. Between 1993 and 1999 it also organised seven Starkbierfeste (strong beer festivals), whose highlight was a satirical roast of local politics and politicians written by Helmut Fraunholz.[1]
Repertoire
The programme consists mainly of rural comedies and boulevard comedies, performed over two weekends in November.[1] In 2016 the group added a murder-mystery dinner, and in 2019 it returned to a comedy in Bavarian dialect, for which children joined the cast for the first time.[2]
