Theatergruppe KreaMief wider den Ernst e.V., usually called KreaMief, is an amateur theatre group in Waldmohr in the Kusel district, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.[1] Founded in 1994, it has performed comedies in the Palatine German dialect since 1998, generally one production a year, with premieres in recent seasons in November.[2][3]

History

In the summer of 1993 the cultural committee of the municipality of Waldmohr proposed founding a local theatre group. Interested residents of Waldmohr and the surrounding area met, and the association KreaMief was founded in February 1994. For its first four years the group staged boulevard comedies in standard German, as well as two children's plays. In 1998, its fifth season, it switched to Palatine dialect with Heinrich Kraus's De Sultan vom Westrich. According to the group, its audience and membership numbers doubled after the change. The tenth-anniversary production in 2004 was So e Theater by Jürgen Hörner.[4][2]

In 2015 the group tried a new genre with the black comedy Kaugummi un Diamande; the local press noted that it had previously played classics, Volksstücke and boulevard comedies.[5] A production planned for 2020, the crime comedy Ba Ba Bankiwwerfall, was postponed because restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic prevented rehearsals.[6]

Repertoire

After four seasons of standard-German comedies, the group has played comedies and farces in Palatine dialect since 1998. Many of them are dialect versions of German or English stage comedies, among them several plays by Ray Cooney, whom the group counts among its favourite authors, and adaptations of Molière and Heinrich von Kleist.[2][7]
