The Theatergruppe Lichtenau e. V. is an amateur theatre association from Lichtenau, a village in the municipality of Weichering, Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district, Upper Bavaria, Germany.[1] Founded in 1988 as the theatre group of the local horticultural society, it has been an independent association since 2001 and plays mainly Bavarian comedies in its own theatre, the Schweigerhalle in Weichering.[2]
History
The group was founded in January 1988 as the theatre group of the Gartenbauverein Lichtenau and gave its first performances, of Ulla Kling's comedy Die Jungfernwallfahrt, on 16 and 17 April 1988 in the Gasthaus Hammer in Lichtenau. It paused in 1991, which the chronicle attributes to the Gulf War, and in 1997 because of the 800th anniversary celebrations of Lichtenau. On 8 May 2001 the group separated from the horticultural society and founded its own association. A youth group was founded at the annual general meeting of 22 October 2005.[2]
From 2001 the group regularly staged new plays by Peter Landstorfer, which its members would first see at Gut Nederling in Munich; in 2005 it was the first theatre group to perform his Wob baba luba. After Pension Schaller in 2012 the group could no longer use the Gasthaus Hammer. It moved to the Schweigerhalle in Weichering, a former potato barn, which it converted into a theatre and first used in 2013. It paused again in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and used the break to add toilets, a kitchen and a lounge to the hall.[2]
Repertoire
The repertoire consists mainly of Bavarian comedies, many of them by Peter Landstorfer; with Hotel im Angebot the group also turned to boulevard comedies, and it has staged a children's production of Pippi Langstrumpf.[2][3]
