The Theatergruppe Rohr e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Rohr, Roth district, Middle Franconia, Bavaria, Germany, devoted to dialect theatre (Mundarttheater). Its annual dialect theatre evenings in January draw more than 2,000 spectators.[1] It has twice won the Theaterpärla, the challenge trophy of the Franconian dialect theatre days.[2]

History

In autumn 1979 a group of young players around the director Hans Ströbel, himself still very young, gave two performances of the rural play Der Zwitter in the half-full Bierlein-Saal; from these beginnings an active theatre association developed. In autumn 2009 the group moved into new rooms in the Protestant parish hall of Rohr. In October 2021 it revised its statutes and a new generation took over the board.[1]

Repertoire

Besides the January theatre evenings in Franconian dialect, the group regularly takes part in the Franconian dialect theatre days (Gesamtfränkische Mundart-Theatertage) and the parish festival of the Protestant parish of Rohr, plays for senior citizens' afternoons and stages a Christmas play. It has a children's and youth group (Theaterkids) and an improvisational theatre group, Volles Rohr.[1][2] The repertoire includes Bavarian and Franconian comedies and farces as well as boulevard comedies, often by English and French authors, and children's plays after fairy tales and classics.[3] Years in the table are those of the January season for which each production was announced on the group's website.
