The Theatergruppe Tiefenbach e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Tiefenbach, Cham district, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany.[1] Theatre in Tiefenbach was revived in the late 1970s by the Catholic rural youth (KLJB); the association was founded in 1998 and plays in its own venue, the Spaßettl, a converted gymnasium.[2][3]
History
The former young men's association (Burschenverein) of Tiefenbach already staged plays, directed by Michael Bücherl, and in the years after the Second World War serious plays were also performed; interest declined with the spread of television until the performances stopped. At the end of the 1970s members of the KLJB revived the tradition with Die Weiberhelden vom Blumberghof on the stage of the youth centre. From 1981, beginning with Die Tugendbrille, the plays were directed by Hans Bindl from Trosendorf, who in 2011 had been the group's director for more than 30 years. The 1985 production of Die hölzerne Jungfrau was described by the group as the KLJB's most successful.[2]
In 1998 an independent theatre association was founded; it later counted well over 60 members. For the 825th anniversary of the municipality in 2005, about 30 players performed the open-air play Schluss mit lustig oder Das Gespenst von Tiefenbach on Tiefenbach's main square, written for the occasion by Thomas Stammberger, who directed it with the actress Gabrielle Odinis; its patron was the Bayerischer Rundfunk presenter Tilmann Schöberl, and each of the eight performances featured a well-known guest player. From November 2005 to March 2007 the members converted the disused gymnasium of Tiefenbach into the Spaßettl, investing about 3,800 hours of voluntary work without public subsidies.[2][3]
Repertoire
The group stages a Bavarian comedy every year; it also has a youth theatre group, whose productions include Kaiser Pu Ding – Ins Land der Marmeladenbrote, Vampire auf Schloss Königstein and Der Schneckenprofessor.[4][5]
