The Theatergruppe des SSV Wildpoldsried is the theatre section of the sports club SSV Wildpoldsried (Ski- und Sportverein) in Wildpoldsried, Oberallgäu district, Bavaria, Germany.[1] Its tradition goes back to plays staged privately in the village from 1925; the group has been part of the club since 1961.[2]

History

In 1925 Anton Scheufele began staging plays in Wildpoldsried, including his own Alpenglühn, Heimatglocken and Die drei Dorfheiligen. After the Second World War he revived the theatre in the Gasthof Adler. In 1959 he handed the village stage over to Hermann Kistler, who joined the SSV Wildpoldsried with his group as a section in 1961; performances then took place in the club's inn, the Gasthaus Hirsch, and in the 1970s on a new stage in the hall of the primary school. In 1983 the group won first prize at district level in the Swabian dialect competition gschwätzt – gschpielt – gschrieba with Dr gschleckate Deifl and was invited to perform the play in the Komödie in Augsburg. For the revival of Alpenglühn in 1988 a new stage was installed in the school gymnasium, which has remained its venue.[2]

The section joined the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. in 1993. In 2003 about 70 people took part in the musical Let's go, after which the dance group Las Bailadoras was formed. The planned celebrations for the club's centenary in 2020 were cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic; in November 2021 the group presented Greisliche Gruselnächte on a lake stage at the village bathing pond.[2][1]

Repertoire

Beginning with folk plays, the repertoire developed towards boulevard comedies, crime comedies, music theatre, satire and cabaret. The group performs a children's play every Christmas, and its youth work includes children's and youth theatre, a juggling group and youth dance groups.[2]
