The Theaterverein Elschbach e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Elschbach, a village in the municipality of Bruchmühlbach-Miesau in the district of Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It stages comedies, many of them in the local Palatine dialect, as well as fairy tales performed by children and plays by a seniors' group.[1]

Repertoire

The group's first recorded production was Das Geheimnis von Steinkreuz in 1983. Its dialect comedies include Die Borjermeeschderwahl (1984), De Peder vun Elschbach (1988), Weiwerwirtschaft (1992), Die Geischderstunn (1998), Rebelle in Elschbach (2003), Schääne Ferie (2022) and Wann's laaft, dann laaft's (2024).[1] In autumn 2026 it is staging Unn alles uff Krankeschein; demand was so high that advance sales were closed early with almost all performances sold out.[1]

Children and young people

A children's group formed soon after the club began, first with small appearances at Christmas. In spring 1994 it staged its first fairy tale, Schneewittchen, under the motto "children and adults play for children and adults"; when more than 30 children wanted to take part, the motto became "children play for children". A junior group for 14- to 18-year-olds grew out of the cast of Oscar Wilde's Das Gespenst von Canterville in 1989. In spring 2027 the children's group plans to perform Michel in der Suppenschüssel after Astrid Lindgren.[2]

Seniors' group

From 2006 to 2016 the seniors' group Elwetritsche performed short plays, recitations and music in retirement homes in the districts of Kaiserslautern and Kusel, in the neighbouring Saarland and as far as Speyer, under the motto "seniors play for seniors". The group was later re-formed with a new cast.[3]

Organisation

It has also founded a line-dance group, the Backstage Stompers.[1]
