Theaterverein Hofstarring is an amateur theatre group in Hofstarring, a village in the municipality of Steinkirchen in the district of Erding, Upper Bavaria, Germany. Its website calls it the Starringer Theater; it has staged one play almost every year since 1975, mostly comedies and farces, many of them in Bavarian.

History

The group's chronicle begins with the dramatic Volksstück Der König der Berge by F. Hayn in 1975. Since then it has produced a new play nearly every year; there were no performances in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and the group returned to the stage in 2023 with Grand Malheur by Bernd Gombold.

Repertoire

In its early years the group alternated comedies with dramatic Volksstücke such as Der Schmied von Hohenwart (1981) and Der verlorene Sohn (1986), both by Franz Rieder. Since the late 1980s it has played almost exclusively three-act comedies, farces (Schwank) and the occasional crime comedy, with Bernd Gombold and Peter Landstorfer as its most frequently staged authors. The season takes place in spring: in 2024 the premiere of Ärger beim Kronen-Max was on 15 March, and in 2026 the group gave four performances on the two weekends before Easter.
