Theaterverein Randfall Productions e.V. is an amateur theatre group based in Bad Kreuznach, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.[1] Founded in 1999, it stages lesser-known plays, stage adaptations of films and novels, and musicals, usually one production every one or two years.[2][3]
History
Randfall Productions was set up in the winter of 1999 as an independent theatre group, and performed its first play, MacBest, from 2000 to 2001. In June 2003 the group became a registered non-profit association.[2] The name refers to that first production: in Terry Pratchett's Discworld, the "Randfall" (rim fall) is the edge where the seas pour off the disc into space. The group also reads the word as "special case" and says it chooses plays that are rarely performed.[2]
In 2013 it gave the first performance of Das Arschloch, die Fee und die drei Wünsche by Jan Dottermann, who also appeared in the production.[4][3] With AnarchoShnitzel schrieen sie (2014) the group performed in Hesse for the first time, in Taunusstein. For Party für eine Leiche (2016) it engaged an outside director for the first time and toured Bingen, Kirn, Taunusstein and Neustadt/Weinstraße-Hambach. After that production most of the ensemble left; the four remaining members recruited new players and staged Ralf Königs Lysistrata in 2018.[3]
The musical Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten – Frühling für Hitler premiered on 7 March 2020. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was given only once more, in the open air in Simmertal, before the group paused its performances.[3] The group resumed in 2023 with a modern version of Das Bildnis des Dorian Gray, set in a disco, after it had not received the rights to the play it originally chose.[3][5]
Repertoire
The group plays comedies, satires, stage versions of films and novels, and musicals; Das Arschloch, die Fee und die drei Wünsche was a world premiere.[3][4]
