Theaterverein Rott am Inn e. V. is an amateur theatre group in Rott am Inn, district of Rosenheim, Upper Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1989, it stages rural comedies, boulevard comedies, crime plays and religious plays, mainly in the parish hall (Pfarrsaal) of Rott, and also organises cabaret evenings with guest artists. It has more than 275 members.[1]
History
Theatre in Rott am Inn was revived by the local Catholic rural youth (KLJB). As its members grew too old for the youth organisation, 15 of them and one other theatre enthusiast met in the parish hall in February 1989, following an invitation in the Wasserburger Zeitung, to found a theatre club. The first general meeting on 20 March 1989 adopted the statutes and elected the first board; by then the club had 89 members.[1] On 1 January 1991 it joined the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. and the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater (BDAT).[1]
The club has played every year except 2002, when the parish hall was used by the kindergarten, and 2017, because of illness; in many years it gave two productions. In 1993 it staged its first passion play, Frau Pilatus – Der Prozess Jesu, and in 1994 its first musical theatre production, Die schöne Lügnerin. The Lower Bavarian Singspiel Der Holledauer Fidel, staged with the local choral society, drew 1,254 spectators.[1] Its religious plays Die Legionäre and Der Pakt mit dem Teufel – Theophilus in Not were performed in the churches of Rott and of Branzoll in South Tyrol; Theophilus was also shown at an international theatre festival in Abtenau, Austria, and at the BDAT festival Wurzelwerk in Sulzbach.[1]
The club celebrated its 25th anniversary on 22 March 2014 and its 30th on 6 April 2019 with a festival of seven sketches. No plays were staged in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic; instead the club held sketch evenings. While the parish hall was being rebuilt, the club played in the hall of the Landgasthof Stechl and staged historical guided tours around the former monastery; in spring 2026 it returned to the renovated parish hall after almost six years.[1][2]

The club has aimed to stage not only rural comedies but also boulevard theatre and crime plays.[1]

Venue
The club's stage is in the parish hall of Rott am Inn at Haager Straße 7. The club equipped the stage and hall with modern technology, financed by donations from local firms and the municipality, and inaugurated the new stage in 2026. During the renovation it played in the hall of the Landgasthof Stechl.[3]
Organisation
The club is closely linked with the Catholic parish of Rott.[1] Its youth group, started on 17 September 2008, has performed children's plays, nativity plays and sketches, including at the local clinic; it was restarted in 2018 and again in 2024.[4] In 2010 the club signed a cooperation agreement with the primary and secondary school in Rott, supporting school theatre with equipment, costumes and advice. In 2013 it founded the Theaterdreieck with the Musik- und Theaterverein Attel and the Laienspielgruppe Pfaffing, for joint evenings of one-act plays.[1] Since 1995 it has organised 23 cabaret evenings with guest artists such as Luise Kinseher and Michl Müller, with more than 2,600 spectators in total.[5]
