Theaterverein Siegsdorf e. V. is an amateur theatre group in Siegsdorf, district of Traunstein, Upper Bavaria, Germany. The present club was founded in 1998 and continues a theatre tradition in the village that goes back to the Theatergesellschaft Siegsdorf of 1910; it had 84 members in 2025.[1][2]

History

In early 1910 the local choral society, the costume society and the marksmen planned to build a theatre in Siegsdorf; when this failed for lack of money, Johann Hollnaicher set up a theatre group, the Theatergesellschaft Siegsdorf, whose statutes named Upper Bavarian Volksstücke as its purpose. Its first play, D'Zwiderwurzen by H. Schmid, was performed on 24 April 1910, and it gave up to three productions a year. It premiered several plays by the local author Hans Pointner, and its success drew a visit by the theatre studies courses of the University of Munich. The company last appeared on 6 February 1938 and stopped playing with the beginning of the war.[1]

In 1950 the Tannhäuser-Sage, after a draft by Hans Pointner and adapted by Hans Beck-Gaden, was staged in the specially converted inn Alte Post; afterwards theatre in Siegsdorf was largely limited to one-act plays at the costume society's meetings. From 1975 Otto Steigelmann and others staged one-act plays at the Siegsdorfer Dorfhoagart.[1] On 28 May 1998 a meeting decided to stage full-length plays, encouraged by the completion of the new Festsaal, and the founding meeting of the Theaterverein Siegsdorf, with 30 members, followed on 2 July 1998 at the Gasthof Neue Post. The club was later entered in the register of associations at Traunstein.[1]
